A commercially available streaker that shows up.

Hosta ‘Frog in My Throat’ is a striking streaked sport with an upright habit and uniquely twisted, folded foliage. Each leaf features a creamy white center heavily speckled with green, surrounded by a medium to dark green margin. The effect is highly variable and eye-catching, with no two leaves looking exactly the same.

The foliage is moderately wavy and deeply textured, giving the plant a sculptural quality even at a young age. In midsummer, tall green scapes carry near-white flowers with soft lavender striping, adding subtle color above the bold foliage.

A true conversation piece in the garden, this is one of those plants that feels like it’s in motion even when standing still.

  • Upright habit with twisted, folded leaves adds strong texture.

Connoisseur’s Corner

Hosta ‘Frog in My Throat’ is a 2024 registered streaked sport of H. ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’, bred by Hans Hansen and introduced through Walters Gardens. While its parent cultivar has struggled with propagation and has yet to reach stable commercial availability, ‘Frog in My Throat’ is already in circulation and proving far more available.

Early production has shown more reliable multiplication, though—as with many streaked hostas—color stability can vary, and occasional reversion to green is possible. For collectors, this makes it both exciting and somewhat unpredictable: a true modern streaked introduction with real-world availability.
